Murder at Blood Mansion: An intense murder mystery card game

Good Day Backers, 

I’ve always said the length of a good murder mystery card game should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder. Now, I really wasn't expecting to be reaching out to you today. This is rather short notice for me, so I will do my best in order to update you with some promising news.

Firstly, that blasted stretch goal that’s been hanging above your heads like raw steak over a den of bloodhounds has been reached! Yes, those cheap, flimsy cards will now be replaced with a sturdy card stock built of ivory core with linen texture. I do not know what all that means, but with a name like that, it ought to outlast even the worst of thunderstorms. Therefore, we can now put it behind us and set our sights onward.

Secondly, many of you have said our stretch goals are too far and wide apart. Sorry to say that, but the creators have spent months (well actually the final day or two before launching) figuring all that out. They had a good idea just how much all this is going to cost them. I’m fairly certain their math is off. They always tend to forget Kickstarter takes their cut too of everything earned. Needless to say they have found it in their hearts to settle this matter and give you a new stretch goal at $17,500. I’m sure they’re going to regret it as they are certain it’s going to come and bite them in the butt. No need to go into details. Just go to the campaign page and see for yourself what they have in store. I’m sure you’ll be tickled to death. After all, the game will be sent all around the globe to far away places such as the Philippines, Netherlands even Saudi Arabia. Why not make it special?

Thirdly, remember that Backers only reward that I dreaded to announce? Thank you for all your hopeful suggestions. But the creators have confirmed the printing of Stella the Palm Reading Gypsy, Backer’s only Suspect card. Here is a sneak peek at what Parker has been able to sketch so far. Thank you, Flora, for your creative proposition.

And Lastly, I need to address the elephant in the room. Those backer rewards that allow our artist, Parker Jacobs, to draw a caricature portrait of you, a friend or a loved one and turn that vignette into a Blood Mansion Character Card. Whether it’s for your own personal card deck or permanent deck that will live on in the game long after you are gone. Maybe some of you doubt the great possibility that this card game will end up becoming a hit classic. After all, how much did Cards Against Humanity make on their Kickstarter campaign? That’s right, one may never venture to guess how things might turn out. The creators, on the other hand, have high hopes. So give it some thought. There is still of time left. (19 days)

UNLOCKED BACKER'S ACHIEVEMENT - SURPRISE SUSPECT!

Good day Backer.

You know, I’m fortunate to be a coward, to have a low threshold for fear, because a real hero could not possibly make a good suspenseful card game. Things are progressing rather quicker than I had thought. I was hoping to take the Saturday off, but as you see I was alerted to a couple of items that I needed to address. No need to be alarmed on your end, for these matters will only make your life a bit easier and more enjoyable.

Matter # 1 BACKER’S ONLY SUSPECT - 

You have unlocked 8 backer achievements, well done! We have received a few suggestions regarding this surprise Backer’s only Suspect card. For example, Matt suggested “A Bloodhound named Klaus”. The problem is that a canine of any sorts, having a bit more dignity than a human, can in no way shape or form commit the type of murder that the game requires of its guests. On the other hand, Dorte came up with a disturbing solution, which is an “Old woman with a cat - she will kill with poisoned cookies”. Thank you Dorte, but Lady Blood already has 8 cats of her own and adding one more to the mix, even if it is temporary, will not make my job easier.

That leaves us with Flora from the Netherlands. Now here is someone I can trust. She suggested: “ Maybe a travelling gypsy fortuneteller who happens to stay on the land of the mansion. Her special ability could allow to see into the future”. Excellent suggestion! We were able to discuss the possibilities of a gypsy transient planting herself within the confines of the mansion, and I think we can make due. As far as her scheme goes, seeing into the future was one possibility but we were thinking more on the lines of palm reading (i.e. your hand). It’s a simple task, but the scheme would allow her to see the hand of any player once during the game. We will test it out, but this seems like the direction we will be going in. If anyone has any last minute suggestions, feel free to chime in. Having said that, I will go ahead and commission our artist, Parker Jacobs, to begin sketching out the gypsy character. We will keep you updated on her progress. Again, well done Flora.

Matter # 2 We have unlocked the vendors reward tier. Seems like many of you have high hopes for this Murder Mystery game and feel there is a bit of a monetary advantage for your greedy little selves. So, go ahead, order up to 10 games at a time and as a kind gesture we will take care of the shipping for you within the U.S.

Matter # 3 Oh good. I was was beside myself how I and the creators were going to go about shipping all these games to the various countries around the globe. For example New Zealand. Where on earth is that? Assuming this might be connected to the Dutch province of Zeeland I will trust this place exists and have faith that our fulfillment center that we have partnered with, “Ship Naked”, will get the game safely into your hands without incident. So welcome aboard “Ship Naked’. You have your job cut out for you.

Matter # 4 We still are looking for any brave soul willing to even modify their reward and go all in with our top reward tier which is immortalizing yourself into the game. Imagine in the decades to come when Blood Mansion becomes a classic household tabletop game and there you are, Suspect number 7 ready to commit atrocities. Can anyone even put a price on that? Our artist, Parker, is ready any time you are.

And, of course, we have a new Backer Achievement goal that has been posted. I won't bore you with the details, but it will help you with house keeping during game play.  I can promise you that. Please go to our Kickstarter page for details.

That is enough for now, still about only $2600 away from reaching our first Stretch goal at $15K. One Merry Little Week In. 25 exciting days left.

Good day Backers, a Murder Mystery Card game is like the invention of indoor plumbing. It doesn't change people’s foul habits. It just keeps them inside the house. With only 7 days in and 25 promising more days left, I have some startling news for you all: We are close to reaching a milestone in this little venture of ours. We are about to unlock 8 Backer Achievements. No, really.

It’s depressing to note that I don't think there can possibly be enough room in this mansion for all these guests, but I have been told that this new character is for “Backers” only. Therefore, a temporary visitor can make due for now. Having said that, you might be alarmed to know that we haven’t the foggiest idea of what or who this temporary character shall be. Therefore, we are taking it upon ourselves to put the creativity into...yes, your hands. After all, YOU are the one’s stuck with this poor vagabond of a soul.

Possible character cards could be an Arabian Prince who washed ashore after his ship sank in the English Channel or a steampunk Russian ballerina with one mean fouette.

So, if anyone would like to share their thoughts on the matter, please chime in and leave your comments right here on this Kickstarter page. We would love to see what evil or morbid thoughts are running through that interesting little brain of yours. I assure you, the creators will patiently review every one of your awful suggestions on the comment page until one strikes a major artery, sending them into a temporary coma. Good luck..... ...because I will need it.

P.S. I can not forget that our creators would like to thank you for your generous pledges thus far. And that they are excited that, hopefully, by the end of next week, we can reach our first stretch goal, which is providing you with a sturdier cardstock that can outlast 7,717 rounds of this competitive game. So, please, share this with a few of your promising family members who you still speak with and associates that do not get easily offended.

Blood Mansion Update # 1 

She is a hard woman to please, and this morning as I crawled out of bed, after a short slumber, I could not believe my own eyes. There they were, Lady Blood and what looked like to be Demetrius doing some sort of Cuban Tango in the upstairs ballroom! I’m assuming she’s impressed with what has transpired over the first 24 hours of this Kickstarter campaign. I mean, after all, already 71% funded with 31 days left on the campaign isn’t anything to complain about. In fact it is promising news that we can reach our funding goal in a short while and begin setting our sight on those stretch goals at hand. I mean what are the chances that the earth stops moving and the Kickstarter servers crash? That would be a depressing outcome. 

So let me take it upon myself to thank you for your support in backing Murder at Blood Mansion! But, as I mentioned, we have other pressing matters at hand that we must address. 

Firstly, those wretched stretch goals. They are there, just staring you and me in the face. We know we can reach them, and we have every intention to do so. So let’s not lose steam and keep spreading the word through Facebook, Instagram Twitter and the such! Together with your help, we can, with no doubt, achieve this honorable goal and make the game even more enjoyable for you and others yet to join in. 

Secondly, we have some roles to be filled, like the 7th Character Card. If you have noticed we really want this role to get filled rather quickly and it’s never too late to either change your mind or encourage a friend or a loved one to snatch up that backer reward him or herself. After all, imagine when Murder at Blood Mansion becomes a classic family game in the decades to come, and to say you or a friend IS that 7th Character in the game, that Parker, our artist, drew himself. Wouldn’t that be a hoot? 

So, as a reminder tonight, Lady Blood has put Zona, her French chef, in charge of a huge bash in Lady Blood’s honor. We hope all who are in the area can take the time tonight and join us for the gala event. Rumor has it there will be a Rock and Roll band, Ball and Chain, causing quite a ruckus in the neighborhood of the mansion. We hope you will come. There was this loud crash that jolted me again from a deep slumber in my chambers. I gathered my wits, ran into the hallway, and smelled a foul stench. Following my nose to the cellar, I once again stumbled onto a site I shall never forget. There they were. Promenading around like a bunch of wild geese. I thought the party was over but no! No. No No. “The party has only begun!”, yelled Demetrius. Turns out we were officially funded, and in less than 48 hours, so they say. To be quite honest I lost all track of time. 

So a murder mystery game called Murder at Blood Mansion? What are we getting ourselves into? Now, just to let you know, I'm sure modern civilized methods of homicide are much more efficient, but I don’t care for them. I abhor violence, that is why in this Mansion we use stabbings, shootings and poisonings only when they are absolutely essential to the game, or when the whim strikes.

Lady Blood sends you her love and thanks for backing this morbid card game. And for those that attended the mansion last night an extra salutation for your support. We hope you enjoyed the music, the food, the decorations not to mention the live band fittingly called “Ball and Chain”.

Now, onto more pressing matters at hand. We have a few stretch goals to achieve. And it would tickle us to death if we were to hit every single one of those. According to www.KickTraq.com we have a good chance of doing that, but we still need your support in spreading the word. After all you are a part of the mess by being a backer. Sorry for putting you on the hook like that, but I think deep down inside you are enjoying this plucky little challenge. So, by telling a friend or loved one about our little Kickstarter campaign I assure you our relationship shall remain cheerful.

With that said I’m going back to bed and letting the rest of those characters clean up this house.
